Class Dojo
We are working with Class Dojo, a rewards based online system where the children can earn points for their behaviour and their performance in school. These points can be "banked" or they can be exchanged every fortnight for prizes. It motivates the children and it has a fun element were the children have permission to design and change their avatar online. The children are enjoying the competition and have a visual reminder daily of their points balance. Points are allocated at both a group and at an individual level.

Week ending 17th October 2014
We had permission to spend the day in Carton House on Friday October 17th. It was Maths Week so we started our activities for the day with a Maths Trail. A special thanks to all the parents who came along and helped on the day, with special thanks to Jacqueline Devereux, our class co-ordinator, who arranged the help. It enabled us to break the class into groups of 5 children to move quickly around from station to station solving the puzzles at hand. Have a look at our photo gallery for a reminder of the great day.
In the afternoon the children had an opportunity to review the Vanishing Art Exhibition. The children enjoyed hearing the story behind each of the sculptures on display outside. They learned about materials used to create the different textures. It was great fun trying to find the tropical birds hidden high in the trees all over the grounds. If only we'd had more time. They might like to return to visit the inside exhibits with their families.
We finished the day with some orienteering. The children raced around the grounds with their team leaders to find the orienteering cards, to collect the letter on each card allocated to their group. All six letters were put together by each team at the end to name a county - we had Carlow, Armagh, Antrim, Tyrone, Galway and Offaly.
With not enough time to finish the nature trail, we decided to leave it for another day. The children will use the leaves they collected in Carton Demesne for some art work. They went home tired and happy after their long day.
