Scoil Oilibheir Naofa was awarded their 4th Green Schools Flag for Travel in May and it is now proudly displayed on school grounds with our other Green Flags.
Green Schools Programme
Green-Schools, known internationally as Eco-Schools, is an international environmental education programme, environmental management system and award scheme that promotes and acknowledges long-term, whole school action for the environment. Unlike a once-off project, it is a long-term programme that introduces participants (students, teachers, parents and the wider community) to the concept of an environmental management system. For further information on this initiative see link below
Scoil Oilibhéir Naofa is a green school. We try to educate the children on a range of environmental issues, like for example Waste Management & Energy Conservation. A maximum of 5 flags can be awarded under the 'An Taisce' Green Schools programme with each flag taking approximately two years to achieve for the school. Our green schools co-ordinator, Mrs O'Connor-Daly has been instrumental in helping our school to achieve 4 flags to date and hopefully will help us work towards our final flag in 2015. Mrs. O Connor-Daly would like to extend her gratitude to the K.P.A. who has to date part funded the purchase of flag poles for the green flags of Scoil Oilibhéir Naofa.

- Scoil Oilibhéir Naofa were successful in achieving their first green flag in 2007 for Litter and Waste Management. Throughout this process the children learned the concepts of "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in a very practical manner and were able to use these concepts to improve their community.
- On March 5th 2009, at a ceremony in the conference centre in Croke Park, Mrs O'Connor-Daly collected the second green flag which was achieved for Energy. The Energy theme looked at how we can reduce our carbon footprint on the world and encouraged the children to remember to "Turn off" lights, appliances and taps. They looked at the saving in terms of energy conservation and financial gain.
- On March 10th 2011, Mrs. O' Connor-Daly collected the third green flag for the school for water conservation. This 3rd flag looked at the water consumption within the school and steps were taken to reduce our consumption as much as possible going forward within our school community. Mrs. O'Connor-Daly was accompanied on this day by Alan Carrigan, Morgan Biggs, and Ann-Marie Byrne. We had a successful flag raising in June when Sean Boylan was the invited guest who raised the flag for the school. This was a great day of celebration for the whole school community.
- Comhghairdeachas do cach! We have now achieved our fourth green flag for 'travel' in 2013. Mrs. O' Connor-Daly would like to thank all of the parents and members of the KPA who continuously participate in our WOW events. Well done to all involved!
